Nose Gear Part 1

Posted on Updated on

I decided to start the nose gear installation by mounting the first pipe to the aluminum block. I clamped the pipe in place then drilled the 1/4″ hole through the pipe.

Next I mounted the tire. First problem I noticed is that the bearings on the wheel have an unnecessary side load that can easily be fixed with a spacer. I cut the spacers to 5/8″ long and placed them between the two bearings.

Next I cut a set of spacers to keep the wheel centered. This was easy using a pipe cutter.

After cutting the four spacers it was time to install the wheel.

This was a little tricky, had to get the wheel in place then push the axle bolt through and install spacers at the same time.

Then install the spacers on the other side and push the axle bolt through.

While some of the parts in the nose wheel kit are prefabricated, few have all of the necessary holes. I marked the location of the four 1/4 holes and put the drill press to work.
